Charlotte’s started her journey at DMOS as a permanent recruiter under our Permanent Recruitment sector, Opus Vitae, before transitioning into an accounting apprenticeship. Now, as Head Office and Accounts Manager, she has embraced every challenge and smashed them all!
We sat down with Charlotte to hear about her apprenticeship journey, her biggest achievements, and what’s next for her career.
Choosing the Apprenticeship Route.
Charlotte’s journey into accounting wasn’t a traditional one. She was working as a permanent recruiter for Opus Vitae when Stuart, our Owner and Managing Director, recognised the need to bring finance and accounting in-house and encouraged the team to explore different options.
“I’ve always had an interest in numbers and analytics but had no previous background in either. So, when we started reviewing the best approach, I attended an open day at Severn Financial Training. They offered great support and one-to-one training, which made the apprenticeship route the perfect fit for me.”
This decision set Charlotte on the path to becoming a qualified Assistant Accountant while gaining real-world experience within the business.
Proud Moments & Achievements
When asked about her proudest achievements, Charlotte highlighted a major milestone:
“Bringing payroll in-house was a huge accomplishment for me. It allowed us to manage payroll for several clients internally, which really strengthened our relationships with both clients and candidates.”
Beyond payroll, she has also worked hard to streamline processes within accounts and payroll, making operations more efficient for the entire business.
What's Next for Charlotte?
With her apprenticeship now complete, Charlotte is focused on continuing to expand her knowledge in accounts and bookkeeping.
“I would love to study Level 4 in the future, but for now, my main focus is on Opus Vitae. I’m also keen to learn more about DM Recruitment and explore ways to provide more financial advice for the business.”
Her growing expertise is already making a big impact, and we can’t wait to see how she continues to develop in her role.
Specialist Areas & Future Goals
Looking ahead, Charlotte has clear ambitions for where she’d like to specialise.
“I’d love to focus on business and corporation tax, as well as cash flow management and budgeting. Since our head office handles facilities, this knowledge would help us manage finances even more effectively.”
We are excited to see these skills come into play and help drive the business forward.
Advice for Future Apprentices.
For anyone considering an apprenticeship in accounting, Charlotte has some great advice:
“I definitely recommend the Level 3 Assistant Accounting Apprenticeship with Severn Financial Training—and if you can, look at doing a fast-track course. Having a supportive employer is also key, especially one that allows you to apply what you’re learning on the job.”
